The Road Rules for Reid cards came about from Reid's mother coming across a picture of Reid in a car smiling. She created a few cards to give to his friends to put in the dashboards of their cars to remind them of Reid as well as to buckle up and drive safe. The cards were a big hit and she later joined forces with the Candler and Emanuel County Child Fatality Review Committee to distribute the cards to the local high schools during Red Ribbon Week.
The cards are meant to serve as a reminder to teens to drive safely. The cards also stress the various factors that are involved in most teen automobile wrecks such as not wearing seatbelts, cell phone distraction, speeding, and drinking and driving.
